The director of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD), Alejandro Montas said yesterday, Monday 25 February that it is owed more than RD$11 billion in late payments for water service. He said that they were working on an agreement with the people who have stopped payment for the service that includes the elimination of late fees and the payment of the debts over a period of time.
During the weekly meeting held by the General Directorate for Communications (DICOM), Montas issued a call to the residents of Greater Santo Domingo to pay for the service that they receive. According to the CAASD official, each month the water company should receive RD$150 million for water, but it is only receiving RD$80 million. He said that they would be installing 200,000 new water meters in the next few years with the aim of improving water consumption, including 50,000 during 2013.
