Prosecutor announces strategies for Bahia de las Aguilas case

Prosecutor General Francisco Dominguez Brito has announced that two commissions have been formed to prepare the Bahia de las Aguilas case and defend the interests of the Dominican government in the Land Court and the Penal Court. Lawyer Fermin Casilla Minaya and two real estate specialists will work the Land Court. The Penal Court case is entrusted to National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso and assistant prosecutor Bolivar Sanchez. As reported in acento.com.do, Dominguez Brito says that the prosecutors have two strategies for defending the Bahia de las Aguilas property in court. The first is: for the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) to revoke the court order that closed the penal action, and for penal action be taken against the former director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Jaime Rodriguez Guzman, his wife Reyna Margarita Martinez and his brother Rafael Rodriguez, accused of appropriating thousands of acres of land in Bahia de las Aguilas, Pedernales and in Cabarete, Puerto Plata.

The second, he says, is for the Land Court to annul the property titles that were granted fraudulently and for the land to be returned to its rightful owner, the Dominican state.
