There is an impasse between the director of the Technical Office for Ground Transport (OTTT) and transport union leaders, because the OTTT has not authorized an increase in fares. The transporters have asked for an urgent meeting with President Danilo Medina. Arsenio Quevedo, from the National Transporters Union (Unatrafin) and Juan Marte, from the National Transport Workers Center (CNTT), and others, walked out of a meeting held yesterday, Tuesday 5 March, with OTTT Director Hector Mojica, although they did ask him to set up a meeting with the President this week, warning that they would not stand for any more financial losses.
The situation meant that Mojica has called another meeting for today, Wednesday 6 March, and has asked the transporters to submit their demands in writing. However the transport unions have refused to attend, dismissing it as a waste of time.
At yesterday’s meeting, the union representatives asked Mojica to increase fares, give free gas cards to any drivers who did not have them, increase the amount of subsidized fuel, reestablish customs facilities and include drivers and their families in the social security scheme.
The meeting was attended by Antonio Marte, from the National Transport Confederation (Conatra) Alfredo Pulinario (Cambita), from the National Movement for Transport Drivers (Mochotran), Santiago Zamora, from the National Federation of Tourist Transport (Fenatratur), Oscar de Jesus Francisco, from the National Federation of Transport Confederation (Fentracon) and Victor Ruiz, from the National Federation of Transport Friends of Pena Gomez (Fenatrapego).
