No decision on overseas offices

The judges at the Higher Electoral Court (TSE) say that they are unable to hear and decide on a case against the Central Electoral Board (JCE), which is challenging the closure of the JCE’s administrative service offices in the United States and Europe, apparently due to budget constraints. The court, chaired by Mariano Rodriguez Rijo, stated that the JCE’s decision to close the offices was administrative, and should be take to an administrative court.

At the same time the court ordered two other complaints on the same issue by the Corporation of Political Parties in Latin American (COPOLA) and the New Jersey Affiliation with the College of Lawyers in the Dominican Republic (CARD). to be linked to the current case.

They argue that the remittances that overseas-based Dominicans send to their relatives in the Dominican Republic meant that all Dominicans living abroad should have the same rights granted by the Constitution and the laws, so they should have access to the JCE administrative services.
