Workers protest in San Cristobal

Hundreds of local government workers from San Cristobal paralyzed traffic between Bani, San Cristobal and Santo Domingo yesterday, Wednesday 6 March, as part of a campaign for the Ministry of Interior and Police to authorize the funds to pay the council employees.

The workers, who blocked the road with dozens of full garbage trucks, have not been paid for the month of February, as the account in the Town Hall has been frozen due to a debt of more than RD$70 million it owes to a local businessman.

At the same time, hundreds of vehicles drove in both directions along the highway linking the capital and the southwest of the country, occupying the middle of the road, to pressure the authorities to find a solution to the problem, saying they would not give up until their demands had been met.
