The president of the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP), Eduardo Hidalgo, said over the weekend of 9-10 March that President Danilo Medina would be the best guarantor of the agreement that the union is proposing to sign with the Ministry of Education, which they hope will end the conflict over a salary increase for the public school teachers. Hidalgo told reporters from El Nuevo Diario that the teachers were entering these talks as part of their struggle to obtain a salary increase as well as 19 other points regarding different benefits. He pointed out that the seven-day grace period would end on Thursday, 14 March and that the ADP was optimistic about its meeting with Ministry of Education representatives today, Monday 11 March.
