Airport authorities will monitor arriving passengers and order those exhibiting suspicious symptoms to undergo medical examination and, if necessary, treatment in specialized centers, the papers report. This is in response to the worldwide mounting panic about the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) epidemic that has recently extended beyond Asia, where most cases and fatalities originated. Special attention will be given to passengers arriving from Canada, the US and Asian countries, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong. The Pan-American Health Association and the World Health Organization are partnering the Dominican Health Ministry (SESPAS) in this drive. So far no cases have been reported in the Dominican Republic.
