Lisandro Macarrulla of the Dominican Republic Association of Industries (AIRD) has called on the government to review the recent economic restrictions aimed at controlling the rise in the dollar against the peso. Business leaders believe that these measures are unsustainable in the long term and are in danger of putting many companies out of business. According to Macarrulla, there needs to be more control over demonetization and stronger adherence to the monetary laws. The president of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (Asociaci?n Nacional de J?venes Empresarios or ANJE), Marisol Vicens Bello, expressed hope that the changes to the Monetary Board will create more economic confidence and lead to improved stability in the dollar-peso exchange rate. She also believes that better planning is needed for a successful demonetization program, which in her opinion should be proactive, not reactive, to instabilities in the market.
