Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) director, Architect Alejandro Montas said yesterday, Sunday 24 March that all the water that is consumed and that is produced in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo is handled by the CAASD. He called on Mayor Roberto Salcedo to help citizens by saving and using water correctly. The official made his comments after Mayor Salcedo said that the nearly 200,000 gallons of water a day needed for the public swimming pools in Guibia came “from wells belonging to the Mayor of Santo Domingo.” Montas made it clear that all surface waters and well waters are handled by the CAASD according to Law 498-73, which created the corporation. He called on the Mayor of the National District to help the CAASD and National District residents to prevent waste and to try and create awareness for rational water use, especially during this period of drought. Montas said that he was not against these recreational programs but that what worried him was the announcement of these 189,000 gallons of water a day that are “necessary for the daily use of the three million, two hundred and fifty thousand people, which is the priority of the Caasd.”
