COE all set for Holy Week

The Emergency Operations Center will have 2,512 aid posts ready for use by Thursday, 28 March. They will be located all over the nation, mostly near highways and bathing spots, but also on some of the main city avenues.

According to Diario Libre, the “Holy Work, Holy Week 2013” operation will involve 35,000 aid workers who will be posted along streets and highways and include EMT personnel, doctors, military and police units and rescue personnel. Their job is to prevent accidents and save lives. The operation will start at 2pm on Holy Thursday and end at 8:00 at night on Easter Sunday, 31 March. Some restrictions include enforcement of the laws banning drivers from transporting passengers in open vehicles (such as in the back of pickup trucks) and motorcyclists without helmets.

The COE director, General Juan Manuel Mendez Garcia said that 168 beaches and swimming spots were being closed down because of the danger they represent. He also reported that 123 ambulances, three helicopters, 20 tow-truck locations, three mobile hospitals and 12 mobile health stations would be mobilized, as well as nine regional command posts.
