Peynado rejects results

Former Vice President Jacinto Peynado said he would not accept the official results of the PRSC primaries, saying that they had been irresponsibly manipulated by party authorities. Peynado attributed the anomalies to a group of five party leaders who believe that the upkeep of the party is the best business they have ever had, ?a paso de vendedores? (at the pace of selling themselves out). This comment was made as a play on the words of former party leader, Joaquin Balaguer?s slogan, ?a paso de vencedores? (at a victorious pace).
Peynado asked, ?who is going to support a candidacy such as that of Eduardo Estrella, won because of fraud, and the purchasing of votes and consciences??
Peynado has requested that new elections be held in San Pedro de Macoris, Janico, San Jose de las Matas, Tamboril and Miches. He is also requesting that vote counts and bulletins issued be revised and that the party be restructured.
Nevertheless, he said, he and his team would continue to work for party unity. ?I do not know where we are headed, but I will not be an element of division, nor separation from the party, nor are we forming a separate party,? he said. Foremost he said was to strengthen the party as an institution, where the effort and work of each is respected and where there is transparency without privileges.
Official final results of the PRSC primaries showed that Peynado won in the National District, and the provinces of La Altagracia, Azua, Bahoruco, Barahona, Espaillat, La Romana, Maraa Trinidad Sanchez, Monte Cristi, Monte Plata, Puerto Plata, San Juan de la Maguana, Valverde, San Jose de Ocoa, and Santo Domingo.
Peynado has the support of party leaders Federico Antun Batlle, Carlos Morales Troncoso and Hector Rodriguez Pimentel.
