Tax law a deterrent for real estate

Directors of the Dominican Association of Builders and Promoters (Acoprovi) raise the alert in an interview in Hoy today, Monday 15 April that the real estate sector is already suffering the effects of the 2012 changes in the taxation law. They say that adding up the values of all properties for taxation purposes is working against the industry. He said that people who purchased property several years ago now find they have to pay high taxes on them because of these as the DGII is assessing them for tax purposes at today’s market prices. Fermin Acosta of Acoprovi also criticized the Ministry of Public Works for not allowing promoters to offer 50-meter small housing projects for the poor, as is common in other parts of the world. The Ministry wants to maintain the older housing dimension restrictions.
