In the past five months the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), working closely with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other agencies, has seized more than 5,000 kilos of drugs, reports journalist Sandra Guzman in El Caribe. The same story makes the point that strangely no big capo has been arrested with the drugs. The report points out that the identification and capture of those responsible for the shipments is still a challenge for the authorities. El Caribe reports that the DNCD only mentions the mules, the confiscations at air and maritime ports, but no specific drug trafficker has been identified as the owner of the cargo.
Most of the drugs seized this year were the result of four major operations, one in Punta Cana, another at Saona Island and two at the Multimodal Caucedo Port in Boca Chica, writes the reporter. She says the highest-ranking person identified is a captain in the Dominican army.
