Fuel consumption down by 5.8 million gallons

Although LPG and premium gasoline consumption in the country has increased over the first quarter of the year, on a year-on-year basis, fuel consumption has declined by 1.8% since 2012. Regular diesel consumption fell by over eight million gallons, together with a loss of over three million gallons in the consumption of regular gasoline. Some of this was offset by an increase in the purchase of premium gasoline, premium diesel and LPG, which is widely used in transportation, homes and industries. Fuel retailers association Anadegas says that despite the drop in sales the government’s tax revenue was over RD$47 billion in 2012. They also pointed out that a RD$2 tax is levied on every gallon of gasoline and diesel that is sold, which goes to the transportation unions.
