Pay up or shut up

During a press interview at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Tuesday 23 April, Ruben Jimenez Bichara, executive vice president of the State Electricity Company (CDEEE), said that the power cuts would only stop when people started to pay for electricity regularly and on time.

He said that the reason is purely financial as there is not the money for a generator to run for 24 hours a day, burning petroleum and that no pocket would be deep enough to manage to pay for the amount of petroleum needed.

He said that they had to change the generators so that they ran on coal, gas or another fuels that are cheaper than petroleum.

Jimenez said that the blackouts over the last few days were caused by three generators that are out of service for technical reasons.
