210,000 learning to read and write

A total of 201,000 people spread out over 16,213 learning centers nationwide are benefitting from the National Literacy Plan “Quisqueya Learns with You,” that the government launched in January. According to the Presidency’s National Special Programs Directorate, they have delivered 16,993 kits with teaching materials and there are 19,919 literacy facilitators, trained by the Ministry of Education, which last week started the process of payment of per diems to the facilitators.

“Quisqueya Learns with You” promotes literacy and continuing education and social inclusion for the beneficiaries. The director general of Youth and Adult Education at the Ministry of Education, Miriam Camilo, said that payment of per diems is particularly for the volunteers who signed the Letter of Commitment. She invited them to go to the nearest branch of Banreservas with their ID card (cedula) to withdraw the money from accounts opened in their names for this purpose.
