Colombian mule dies

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has confirmed the death of a 58-year old Colombian, Pablo Enrique Porras Avila in a room in the Discovery hotel on Calle Arzobispo Nouel at the corner with Palo Hincado, on Santo Domingo’s Independence Park on 11 May, as reported in Listin Diario. The DNCD said he died when the drug leaked into his digestive system. They believe that Porras was hired as a mule to export the drugs. The DNCD says that the Forensic Pathology Institute confirmed there was heroin in his intestines. Eleven packages wrapped in latex condoms were extracted from his body containing a dark liquid with the same characteristics as liquid heroin, said the DNCD. No relatives have come forward to claim the body. The DNCD has notified the Colombian Embassy.

The DNCD said they are trying to establish whether the man had arrived in the country with the drugs in his system, or if he had ingested them at the hotel for transporting to Europe.
