President Danilo Medina took a break on Mother’s Day from his weekend visits. Hoy journalists covering the presidential trips chose instead to publish a recap on the trips. During his “surprise” weekend visits to a series of remote places around the country, President Medina has offered financing for different projects to the tune of RD$650 million, as reported in Hoy. However, to date, according to the newspaper only RD$63.3 million has been formalized and some RD$500 million is still pending the paperwork or some other bureaucratic solution. The money that the President is offering is handled by the Special Farm Development Fund (FEDA) whose director is Antonio Lopez. Medina began these surprise visits almost at the very beginning of his administration and so far has made some 30 visits.
