The Dominican Republic is taking a series of measures to fight human trafficking for prostitution. The Dominican head of the new Special Prosecutor against Trafficking in Persons Office at the Attorney General Office, Jonathan Baro Gutierrez, said that the Dominican Republic should responsibly address the sexual exploitation of women.
The initial step aimed at combatting this scourge is a local strategic prosecution, he said.
Referring to a study by the Tu Mujer foundation, funded by the United Nations Population Fund, he stated that Dominican Republic is the fourth country, after Thailand, Brazil and Colombia, with the highest percentage of such victims.
