The Ministry of Public Works has announced a program of repairs to the Ramon Matias Mella Bridge over the Ozama River n popularly known as the “Bicycle Bridge” because it is so narrow. The bridge will be closed starting at 10pm today, Monday 3 through 6am tomorrow, Tuesday 4 June. The repairs and the repaving of this highly travelled bridge are scheduled to take four days and will end on Thursday 6 June. On Monday (tonight) and Tuesday, the eastbound side will be closed and the westbound side will be closed on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June. The repairs were originally scheduled for last week but heavy rains delayed the work, causing this week’s traffic interruption. The Ministry of Public Works added that the 27 de Febrero Avenue tunnel would be closed from 10pm last night, Sunday 2 June until 5am today, Monday 3 June in order to install some LED lighting fixtures, as reported in El Nuevo Diario.
