President Danilo Medina held a meeting yesterday Monday 10 June at the Presidential Palace with the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Mohan Munasinghe, and discussed a range of issues linked to the economy, energy and the environment.
Munasinghe is in the country as a guest of the Tropigas Natural Foundation to deliver a keynote lecture on the subject of “Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability: The Key to Prosperity, Preservation of the Planet and the Protection of the Poor.” Munasinghe was accompanied by Carlos Jose Marti, President of Marti Group PG and the Tropigas Natural Foundation, and Rene del Risco, vice president of Marketing and Communication.
He said that it was a pleasure to visit the Dominican Republic for the first time, and said that political will was needed to carry out environmental reforms to slow down global warming.
Mohan Munasinghe was born in Sri Lanka, and is the president of the Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND).
