New decree to benefit small business

President Danilo Medina continues to issue decrees to benefit the small business sector. Yesterday, Monday 10 June the Presidency issued Decree 164-13 that orders government institutions to buy from micro, small and medium-sized businesses in the Dominican Republic. The decree establishes that the government should only buy from big business or imports if the goods and services are not available locally from small business. For the goods to be considered locally manufactured, 65% of the inputs need to be part of the final price.

President Danilo Medina also announced that payments by the government to small business would be made on the agreed upon terms.

The government also announced that as of August, small businesses would not have to pay ITBIS and luxury tax prior to receiving the payment from the government.

Upon announcing the new decree, Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo said that the government would give priority to contracts with suppliers in the area where the work or service will be delivered.
