Illegal occupants of Bahoruco National Park to be evicted

The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources has announced that more than 60% of the illegal occupants of the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park, in the south of Pedernales province, in the south west of the country, have been issued with eviction warnings as part of the work to preserve the conservation area.

The Ministry maintains that the occupants have been in the area illegally for many years, working the land and raising livestock as well as making charcoal. They say that in the majority of cases they hire Haitians to help with the work.
