PRD voters discouraged by Vargas vs. Mejia spat, says poll

Florida-based polling company, CIES International reports that support for the PRD opposition party may shrink to 6.7% of total nationwide voters if the party does not resolve its internal conflict.

The two leading PRD members, party president Miguel Vargas Maldonado and former President Hipolito Mejia have not been able to put aside their differences. The CIES poll asked PRD party members what they would do if the two leaders do not resolve the conflict. Only 22.7% of the PRD membership stated that they would remain in the party, which mean a 6.7% of the total population.

The current level of support for the PRD is about 35% of the electorate at the time of the survey. The research was conducted nationwide, with a sample of 1,200 voters. The research was self-funded and is available upon request.
