Businessman and politician Luis Abinader has handed over a diagnostic unit to help towards the early detection of breast cancer in Santiago and other areas of the Cibao. The unit also includes a state-of-the-art mammogram machine, minor surgery room, portable sonogram machine, waiting room and a generator.
The former vice presidential candidate for the PRD said that the funding came from businesspeople in New York who wanted to contribute to the wellbeing of Dominicans.
Abinader said that he was aware that this would not solve the serious issue of breast cancer that affects so many women throughout the country, but he said it was an important step towards helping with a disease that needed the urgent attention of both the state and society.
The equipment was received by more than a dozen doctors who make up the Luis Abinader Health Project in Santiago including surgeon Enrique Romero, internal medicine specialist Jose Lora Perello, surgeon Jose Hilario, gynecologist Ariel Rodriguez and general practitioner Osiris Cruz.
