The police say that a family feud is the reason for the shooting and murder of Moca?s assistant prosecutor, Oscar Lantigua. Lantigua was shot to death on his farm, as was a 14-year-old youth, Juan de Jes?s Brito, who was in Lantigua?s company at the time of the shooting. Police have implicated five people in the crime and say that Lantigua was shot because he had ordered the closing of a road that obliged farmers in the area to make a detour to transport their crops. Originally, there had been speculation that Lantigua had been killed in an act of vengeance by a drug dealer, as his stance against drug trafficking in the area was well known.
