Speaking on occasion of Canada Day celebrated with a reception at the Hotel Embajador, Canadian ambassador Georges Boisse reminded Dominicans that Canadian investment is the second largest in the Dominican Republic, only after that of the United States. He said that this year, the Dominican Republic shows a trade surplus with Canada of US$335,000. He also highlighted around 750,000 Canadian tourists visited last year. Canada seeks to sign a free trade agreement with the Dominican Republic to make Canadian products more competitive.
