The Dominican Republic will be well represented at the Major League All Star Game on 16 July at Citi Field in New York City. The ever-popular David Ortiz, known far and wide as “Big Papi”, the star designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox will be heading the list.
The list also includes Robinson Cano, the New York Yankee second baseman who will also start the game for the American League. Other pitchers are Nelson Cruz, Jose Bautista and 40-year old Bartolo Colon, perhaps the biggest surprise in the first half of this year’s baseball season.
Juan Segura, shortstop, and Manny Machado, the fearsome third baseman of the Baltimore Orioles were also selected, along with Johnny Peralta, Edwin Encarnacion, Carlos Gomez and Pedro Alvarez.
It is possible that the Dominican Republic will get an even dozen on the team if Joaquin Benoit is selected by the American League.
The team winning the All Star Game will allow their league to host the World Series in October.
