One of the most decorated assistant district attorneys in the history of Santo Domingo, was relieved of her job yesterday by presidential decree. Roxanna Reyes Acosta had served the district attorney?s office since 1996, where she worked for children?s rights and was in charge of the Department of Complaints and Conciliation. Her pet projects, such as ?Educate for Peace Through Toys for Life? managed to reduce by 95% the import of violence-related toys. The projects ?Let?s Play for Peace? and, more recently, ?Holy Week with More Control? were well known among jurists and politicians alike. Her department also organized rescue efforts for children at nightclubs throughout Santo Domingo. Reyes Acosta told Hoy reporters, ? I don?t know the reasons for my dismissal, but I think that they should explain them to me?. In 2001, Reyes Acosta received the First National Youth Award in a category that was created precisely for her work towards peace. In 2002, she was recognized by the Jaycees72 as an Outstanding Young Person of the Dominican Republic.
