The General Office of Migration has dismissed two officials who worked in the Haitian affairs department for serious offences.
Angel Luis Santa Ledesma and Maximo Roman Andujar were dismissed for extortion from Haitians who were detained during raids.
The moment of extortion was captured on video by Dominican Quico Jaquez Rodriguez who recorded the two officials taking money from the Haitians on his cell phone, and then informed the press.
The Immigration Investigation Department subsequently checked the story, which led to the dismissal of the officials, who maintained that the Haitians had been giving them money to buy phone cards so that they could call their families.
