Drug haul in Azua

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has seized 222 packets of a powder, presumed to be cocaine or heroin, inside a fighting cocks’ cage and near a banana plantation in Azua.

According to the DNCD spokesperson, Jacqueline Lamarche two men were taken into custody; Felix Marcial Castillo, aged 63 and Agapito Ramirez Mejia, aged 49, who were arrested during an operation carried on a house in the municipality of Tabara Arriba in Azua.

She explained that at first the agents confiscated 207 packets of a white powder, presumable cocaine or heroin, which were inside two yellow sacks inside a cage used for fighting cocks, which was at the rear of the house.

In addition, when the agents went to the Las Yayas crossroads, 200 meters away from a banana plantation, they found another two white sacks, which had 15 packets of the same white powder, which were wrapped in blue plastic bags, bringing the total to 222 packets.

In a press release, the DNCD said that the two arrested men were sentenced to three months on remand in jail in Azua on Saturday morning, 27 July. They did not say when the contraband was confiscated.
