Clinics want more insurance money

The Minister to the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo met with Rafael Mena, president of the National Association of Private Clinics (Andeclip) yesterday, 29 July at the Presidential Palace to discuss the organization’s request for an increase in the amount paid per patient for private hospital services by the National Social Security Board (CNSS). Andeclip argues the fixed amount has not been adjusted for inflation in three years.

Mena left the Presidential Palace discreetly, but in a subsequent telephone call with Diario Libre he said that in the meeting the government showed interest in helping to resolve the issue.

Asked about whether Andeclip would demand a specific amount per person, he said the increase should reflect the annual inflation that is established by the Central Bank.

In the meeting Montalvo said that he would contact the ministers of Labor and Health, as well as the general manager of the National Social Security Board to present to them the concerns of Andeclip.

Several weeks ago Andeclip threatened to stop hospital services to more than two million people who pay for medical insurance if the per person fee is not adjusted.
