At a press conference yesterday, Tuesday 30 July, the Ministers of Public Health and the Presidency, Freddy Hidalgo and Gustavo Montalvo, announced that the government has committed to paying doctors and nurses RD$10 million out of the RD$42 million that are owed for incentives. They also promised to include a salary increase in the 2014 national budget, but the percentage was not set.
The president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Amarilis Herrera, said that the most important thing was that the government was seen to be open to talks and had left the doors open for negotiations. Health association and union representatives said that they would have a proposal in response to the wage increase within ten days.
