A bus owned by the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) caught fire yesterday, Wednesday 31 July, while travelling westwards along Santo Domingo’s 27 Febrero Avenue at the corner of Jose Marti Avenue.
The bus driver testified that before he got to Jose Marti Avenue he felt as if a tire had exploded, so he stopped the bus and got out to look, and that is when he saw that the bus was on fire. He told the passengers to leave the bus and they became hysterical, trying to leave through the doors and windows. No one was injured.
Some ten minutes later, a unit of firefighters arrived and put out the blaze. The bus was totally gutted.
