Sibylle Denis Touat of Haiti was selected to participate in the Visual Arts Biennial from a list of 571 candidates. She was chosen by the selection panel made up of Chus Martinez, Quisqueya Henriquez and Bingene Armenteros. As an artist, Touat is known for her paintings, jewelry and music. The exhibition opens tomorrow, Friday 16 August at the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo. Touat lives in the Dominican Republic, which she calls her “adopted country.” She is a fine arts graduate from the New Rochelle College of Arts and Sciences in New York.
She is also president of the Fundacion Culturama that organizes exhibitions and cultural events to promote the work of Haitian and Dominican artists.
The jurors chose: painting (56), visual arts-performance (8) drawing (22), sculpture (7), video and multimedia (14), photography (32), graphic works (7), ceramics (1) and installation (39).
The works will now be judged by jurors Jorge Pineda, Ines de Tolentino, Luis Reyes Guzman, Joan Vidal and Soraya Abu Nabaa.
