Economist Ceara Hatton on social inclusion

Economist Miguel Ceara Hatton appeared on the Color Vision program “Leaders” hosted by Orlando Jorge Mera on Sunday 18 August, and blasted the government’s policies on social inclusion. Ceara Hatton said that the “economy has been stuck” during the first year of the Medina administration because key sectors such as local manufacturing, construction, farming and services have not experienced any growth. He added that exports have fallen and that unemployment has risen to 15%. He pointed out that the government’s social policies are the same as under the previous administration and that the social gap has not closed, but has increased due to the deficient structure – according to Ceara Hatton – that has been preserved by the government, and in some cases even doubled. Finally he stated that the administration has not fully taken the National Development Strategy (END) to heart and that the government has shown a lack of willpower to sacrifice and demand responsibilities in regard to last year’s staggering fiscal deficit.
