Environmental Festival opens at Agora Mall

The III Annual Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival sponsored by Funglode opens today, Wednesday 4 September at the Palacio del Cine-Agora Mall in Santo Domingo with the screening of award-winning film “Mother: Caring for 7 Billion” at 5pm. The film was the winner of the Best Film Category at the Boulder International Film Festival. It is a revealing story about how the earth’s exploding population of seven billion is silently fueling the world’s most pressing environmental, humanitarian and social crises.

In “Mother,” the filmmakers forcefully send the message that population growth is no longer “… a problem the world community can afford to ignore”.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion entitled “Over-Population: A Threat to Sustainable Development” will follow with input from the film’s director, Christophe Fauchere, a 15-year veteran of the film industry, the film’s co-producer Joyce Johnson and Jeremy Freehill, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative in the Dominican Republic. The panel will address the problem of world over-population and the impact it has on global sustainable development.

All activities: film screenings, workshops, panels, as well as the opening and closing night ceremonies are open to the general public, and free of charge. Seating is limited so early arrivals are recommended.
