The presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies have received the bill to amend the contract signed between the State and the Barrick Gold mining company. The amendments seek to provide the government with more revenue from gold exports. Critics say that technical and environmental issues were not touched upon in the revision.
Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, accompanied by Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Temistocles Montas, Presidential legal advisor Cesar Pina Toribio and Tax Office Director Guarocuya Feliz delivered the proposal to Senate president Reinaldo Pared Perez and Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez.
Pared Perez said they would get to work immediately and work as quickly as possible so that the country could begin to benefit from the terms of the new agreement.
