About 1,317 sea turtles were born in Dominican Republic during this year’s second quarter, reports the Ministry of the Environment.
The National District and the provinces of Samana, Puerto Plata and La Altagracia were the places chosen by the Hawksbill, Green, and Leatherback Turtles to breed, according to Environment Minister Bautista Rojas.
Rojas said that this historic number of sea turtles registered on Dominican beaches is an example of the importance of maintaining monitoring and follow-up policies. He highlighted that the national plan to protect the turtles has reduced the threats to their extinction.
