As he was leaving the Palacio de Justicia in Santo Domingo yesterday, Monday 9 September, the urban merengue singer, Antonio Peter de la Rosa (Omega) was arrested by police officers implementing a warrant for non-payment of child support for one of his children.
He had been at the Palace where his court case for alleged abuse of dancer Yuli Mercedes Lopez was being heard, when police captain Medrano said to him “Omega, you are my friend, but I have an arrest warrant for you,” and took him to preventive custody inside the court.
Omega is supposed to pay RD$10,000 a month in child support and agreed that he was some months behind with the payments but that he had an agreement with the mother, Wendy Rodriguez. He has not paid for 11 months now and his daughter has apparently been unable to go to school as a result. One of his lawyers later paid RD$90,000 and he was released. Omega left a car with his lawyers as a guarantee of the repayment of the money.
