Santiago dengue death toll reaches 14

Hemorrhagic dengue claimed the life of a young boy in the Arturo Grullon Children’s Hospital in Santiago yesterday, Wednesday 18 September. The young patient had been transferred from the Toribio Bencosme Hospital in Moca, according to El Nuevo Diario. Family members said that the boy had been receiving treatment for several days in the Moca hospital before being transferred to Santiago where he died just 40 minutes after arriving. According to Listin Diario, 65 deaths related to dengue fever have been recorded so far this year. The latest bulletin from the Ministry of Public Health notes that there have been two fatalities over the past week, and over 9,700 cases reported from all over the country. The number of cases is nearly twice last year’s total.
