Around 150 Dominican musicians will have the chance to take part in the first workshop on contemporary music being offered by the Berklee College of Music at the National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo from 7 to 12 January next year.
The workshop is part of the Berklee on the Roads program whereby the college offers reaches out to talented students so these can have the chance to experience Berklee-like classes over a three-to five-day period. During the programs, students will participate in lectures, labs, master classes, ensembles, workshops, and jam sessions during the day and have the opportunity to attend special events, panel discussions, and live performances in the evening. The program supports the college’s bid to be the world leader in contemporary music.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Culture, Jose Antonio Rodriguez, the world famous Dominican musician, Juan Luis Guerra, and Larry Simpson, vice president for academic affairs from the school. Also present was the Director of the National Music Conservatory, Maria Irene Blanco. Guerra is a graduate of Berklee.
All musicians who are interested in participating in the workshop should undergo an evaluation which will be carried out by the teachers at the school, and upload a video to www.berklee.edu/berkleeontheroad/berklee-santo-domingo-0 playing their instrument for three to five minutes before the deadline of 15 November. The successful candidates will be announced on 2 December.
