What’s the Haitian government’s motivation?

Diario Libre’s editorialist Adriano Miguel Tejada expresses curiosity over the Haitian government position in demanding Dominican nationality for people born to Haitian parents in Dominican territory. He writes: “The reason why I don’t understand is that the authorities would be right to argue if these people’s Haitian nationality was being revoked, but it’s the opposite. Dominican authorities have always recognized that they are Haitian, so Haiti does not have any grounds for complaint.

“Whatever the case may be – the ball is in the government’s court and it should already have taken the steps to establish the regularization plan. The solution needs to start there.”
