Salcedo announces A Bright Christmas City

Mayor Roberto Salcedo has announced that RD$60 million is being spent in the new Parque Iberoamerica (by the National Music Conservatory) to prepare it for Christmas time celebrations, to be known as “A Bright Christmas”. He said that concerts, plays, an almost “monumental” nativity scene and nightly shows would take place in the new public space from 6pm to midnight. He expects three million city residents to drop by, as reported in Diario Libre.

The park will be decked out for Christmas from 1 December 2013 to 7 January 2014. He said a good part of the cost is sponsored by the private sector. He said the city government had RD$15 million for Christmas decorations and that 600 people would be in charge of the organization and security.

Salcedo is well known for the controversial so-called Zooberto Park, with enormous statues of animals, located at the John F. Kennedy with Los Proceres crossing.
