Haitians arrested for attempting to travel to Puerto Rico

The Army and Police arrested 13 Haitians on board a truck on Sunday 20 October. They were making their way to Bavaro where they planned to board a boat to Puerto Rico, as reported in El Dia. Haitians benefit from the provision that has allowed people reaching US territory (Puerto Rico) to be admitted to the US in the category of Temporary Protected Status. The spokesman for the Navy, Captain Juan Pablo Sandoval Garcia said that the 13 Haitians who were arrested did not have identity papers. They were detained and sent to the Department of Migration.
