Surprise visits are leading to jobs

With his new leadership style and his policy of becoming closer to the poorest communities in the country, President Danilo Medina has helped small business get access to RD$8.26 billion to invest in production, rural and urban infrastructure, cooperatives and human development programs during 50 trips throughout the country where he has made 112 surprise visits in all 32 provinces including the National District, the Presidency reported yesterday, Tuesday 29 October.

According to Jose Ramon Peralta, Administrative Minister to the Presidency, so far the President has made 327 commitments, setting up 147 projects in 181 communities that are being implemented by 26 government departments and institutions. The projects have benefitted around 750,000 people and are expected to create 33,535 direct jobs by the end of this year.

Speaking to the press at the Presidential Palace, Peralta announced that a website had been set up where people could check how each of the projects set up by the President was progressing.

He went on to say that although the visits were a surprise to the communities, they were planned in advance and that he worked with a team to ensure that the projects and provision of the loans were implemented.
