Pepe Lottery case moves forward

The 1987 case in which it is alleged that the National Lottery was defrauded to the tune of RD$90 million is entering its final stage. The sluggish judicial processing of the case has been underway for six years and includes figures such as controversial Colonel Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico who was at the forefront of the so-called Pepegate affair involving Baninter which subsequently collapsed. Judge Esther Agel?n Casanovas has summoned lawyers Luz Maria Duquela Cano, former Attorney General Virgilio Bello Rosa and the National Lottery?s administrator Anibal Amparo to appear before her on 15 May to discuss the case. All accused men are currently free.
