Led by “Big Papi”, David Ortiz, the Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals four games to two last night, Wednesday 30 October, winning the 2013 World Series in front of their hometown fans in Boston. This was the first time since Babe Ruth played in Boston (1918) that the hometown fans have seen the team win a World Series. Dominican megastar David Ortiz, who batted .688 for the series, called a dugout meeting at a crucial moment of Game 4 and generally led by example, was voted the Most Valuable Player of the series. In the sixth game, Ortiz was intentionally walked when he came to the plate with men on base. It did not work as others took to the cause and came through for Boston.
