Prostate cancer has increased among older men in Dominican Republic in the last five years and by the end of 2013 its incidence is estimated at 12% of males, according to official sources.
In response to this problem the Dominican Urology Society is urging all men over 40 to have medical checkups to monitor the growth of the gland.
According to Urology Society president Erick Grullon, early detection of the disease is vital to prevent it from progressing and to apply adequate treatment.
This is a form of cancer that can be treated and guarantee survival, he explained, speaking to specialists interested in analyzing the most recent developments in radiotherapy techniques.
