Medina signs the Preferential Vote Law

President Medina has enacted Law 157-13 on the Preferential Vote for the election of deputies, in time for application in 2016. This law means that voters can now pick and choose candidates, regardless of their placement on the party lists. But the vote for a deputy from one party will also count for that party’s senatorial candidate. In theory at least the candidates will be chosen in party conventions according to the Electoral Law. The Preferential Vote establishes that the preferential vote for city council members and members of the municipal district’s boards of directors will go into effect in 2020.
